About the College Films Website

This website is intended to serve as an educational reference tool for higher education and student service professionals interested in utilizing college films as a learning tool for college students.  Why this website?

As a college student, I was often amused how college life was portrayed in films.  In most respects, the movies sure didn’t seem to describe my college experience as an undergrad at the University of Alabama – Roll Tide!  One thing led to another, and I ended up with cataloging college films as a hobby.  So far I’ve found close to 800 films and counting.  The first website went up in 2004, “yada, yada, yada” and now here we are.  By all means, if there is a film you think should be included please email your suggestion to sam@college-films.com and I’ll check it out.

What it is…

What you will find in this website is a comprehensive listing of college films compiled from a wide variety of sources.  You’ll find award winning films that touched the hearts of millions and you will find awful films that never should have been made.  I’ll grant ya, it’s a stretch to label some of these movies “college films” but my goal here is to create a comprehensive resource, not a strictly defined listing.  So my choice has been to err on the side of inclusion.  As a general rule, most of these films have enjoyed a theatrical release but I’ve also included a few titles that were intended for theatrical release but debuted on television and/or the occasional direct-to-retail releases.

What it ain’t…

You will NOT find included on this website any contemporary entertainment that is pornographic or exploits or demeans college students.  That said, there are films listed that pushed the limits of decency in their day, but generally speaking I won’t be listing any “x-rated” titles or “campus stunts” or “students gone wild” or Internet released films.  I’ve also made a choice not to include any of the student films that you might find on various websites, despite the fact that there are many exciting, professional short films being produced by college students about their experiences in higher education.
